Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has launched ‘Nekar Samman Yojane’ by directly transferring Rs 2,000 financial assistance to the bank accounts of 19,744 weavers in the first phase on Monday.
According to fourth national handloom census, Karnataka has 54,789 registered handloom weavers in the state. “As many as 40,634 handloom weavers have enrolled themselves under the Seva Sindhu software in Karnataka, the applications from as many as 37,314 weavers have been scrutinized and approved so far,” Yediyurappa said.
Bengaluru's local civic body the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Monday claimed that as many as 250 vehicles were availables in the city to help Covid-19 patients travel for treatment purposes.
According to statistics shared by the BBMP, 71 ambulances and 179 tempo travellers have been deployed for the same as on 11.30 am on Monday. Of these, most vehicles are made available in BBMP South zone (20 ambulances, 47 tempo travellers) followed by BBMP West zone (10 ambulances, 54 ambulances).
Earlier, in an all-party meet held on June 25, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa had claimed that Bengaluru has 100 ambulances ready for service.
"Currently, 100 ambulance vehicles are available and this should be enhanced as and when required,” Yediyurappa had said.
The Karnataka government Monday issued a showcause notice to Apollo Hospital in Bengaluru for charging an excess amount for a Covid-19 test from a patient.
According to the notice, the hospital is said to have charged Rs 6,000 on June 25 from a patient while the government cap was fixed at Rs 4,500.
"As per the directions of Commissioner, Health & Family Welfare Services, you are asked to provide an explanation to the same within 2 days of receipt of this notice," the notice dated June 6 reads.
Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Monday termed Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah’s allegations of misappropriation against his government in the purchase of COVID-19 equipment as “unnecessary” and asked him to examine all the documents personally.

According to government guidelines, while in home isolation, Covid-19 positive patients should wear an N-95/medical facemask at all times. The mask should be discarded after 8 hours of use or earlier if they become wet or visibly soiled. While disinfecting the mask, 1% Sodium Hypo-chlorite solution should be used.
The patient must stay in the identified room only and maintain a physical distance of 2 meters/ 6 feet from other people in the home, especially elderly and those with comorbid conditions like hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and renal disease among others.

In a bid to enhance contact tracing methods followed in Bengaluru to assist the government in implementing containment strategies, over a hundred members of the cluster resource team were trained on Monday on the latest methods.
According to BBMP Commissioner B H Anil Kumar, they were trained on contact tracing method and use of apps. "They will in turn train teachers who will augment the work done by contact tracing team at the ground level," he added.
The training was led by Excise Commissioner M Lokesh and Dr Ram Prasath, Managing Director, Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation Limited.
Health experts had earlier suggested that effective home quarantine of primary and secondary contact would contribute well to contain the spread of Covid-19.
The Karnataka government Monday issued a revised order on its quarantine rules for returnees to the state including those returning from Maharashtra.
An order issued by Principal Secretary Revenue Department (Disaster Management) and Member Secretary, State Executive Committee N Manjunatha Prasad, said, 'persons coming from other states to Karnataka, including Maharashtra will be placed under 14 days Home Quarantine.'
Earlier, the state government had issued that those returning from Maharashtra are to be placed under seven day institutional quarantine followed by seven day home quarantine.
Kunigal Congress MLA Dr H D Ranganath has tested positive for COVID-19 and has been admitted to Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru.

Former Union minister and senior Congress leader B. Janardhana Poojary tested positive for COVID-19 and has been admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru for treatment.
In a statement to the media, his elder son Santhosh J. Poojary said that there was no cause for worry and that he has been admitted to the hospital as a precautionary measure and he is asymptomatic. The samples had been collected on July 4.
The 83-year-old leader lived in Bantwal in Dakshina Kannada district.
In a bid to spread awareness against stigmatising the process and patients linked to Covid-19 in neighbourhoods, Bengaluru mayor M Goutham Kumar Monday urged citizens not to post videos of patients on social media.
“Please refrain from recording the videos of COVID-19 patients being shifted in an ambulance and posting it on social media. By doing so, you are only stigmatizing the patient & his family,” he appealed.

Karnataka Tourism Minister C T Ravi has appealed to people, especially those travelling from Bengaluru, not to flock to districts like Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru and adjoining hilly districts.
After Unlock 1.0, most of the homestays, resorts and hotels reopened, as a result, hilly areas in Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu and Hassan attracted tourists from various parts of the state, especially from Bengaluru.
Following the increase in footfall, Chikkamagaluru district administration issued an advisory to people to cancel their tour plans. Deputy Commissioner Dr Bagadi Gautham noted that many were visiting Mullayyana Giri, Baba Budangiri and Seethalayyana Giri areas.
A system designed to centralise bed allocations in Bengaluru, with the municipal corporation given the powers to inform patients, determine the severity of their symptoms, and ensure their transfer in ambulances to hospitals or care centres, has led to chaos in the city.
Ambulances, often carrying multiple people, are waiting for hours outside hospitals as the latter demand paperwork regarding tests, which is not being made available to patients.

As Karnataka battles the coronavirus outbreak, a doctor’s video from Bengaluru has gone viral, in which he is lamenting the shortage of doctors to treat Covid-19 patients.
In the video, Dr Taha Mateen, Managing Director of HBS Hospital, situated in Shivajinagar in the city, appeals to healthcare professionals, including doctors, to help handle the situation better.
“I have beds, I have oxygen beds, I have ventilators, I have all the equipment. I have another 30 beds like this but I don’t have doctors working here,” Dr Mateen is seen saying in the video shot at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital, as specified by him.

Kodagu district reported the first Covid-19 death on Sunday evening.
"The 58-year-old resident of Kushalnagar was rushed to district Covid hospital on Saturday evening from a private hospital. He died with in 30 minutes of admission," Deputy Commissioner of Kodagu district, Annies Kanmani Joy said.
"The patient swab samples tested positive for Covid 19 on Sunday.He was suffering from diabetes and hypertension for the last ten years, " she added.
More than 20 police stations in Bengaluru were sealed on Saturday and Sunday as policemen at these stations tested positive for Covid-19.
On Sunday, few policemen attached to Bagalur, Malleswaram police station, KG Halli traffic police station, Cottonpet and Commercial Street police stations tested positive. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike(BBMP) health officials are sanitising all these police stations and surrounding areas.
With 76 coronavirus cases reported so far, Karnataka's Kodagu district now has 32 active containment zones, Deputy Commissioner Annies Kanmani Joy confirmed on Monday.
While 13 of these are in Madikeri taluk, 11 are in Somwarpet and 8 are in Virajpet taluks.

The Karnataka government plans to set up intensive care units in all COVID care centres in Bengaluru following a spike in coronavirus cases in the city.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan said, “Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) and Koramangala Indoor Stadium based care centres will soon become operational. We will establish 10 ICUs at every Covid Care Centre in the city.”
Narayan visited the BIEC on Sunday, which has been converted into the largest COVID care centre in the country with 10,100 beds. “At BIEC alone, 100 ICUs will be set up with all medical facilities, including oxygen supply. By Monday, 7,000 beds will be ready at the BIEC while another 3,000 beds will be made available later this week. From the coming week, asymptomatic patients will be diverted to the BIEC Covid Care Centre,” he added.
Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao Monday appreciated the support extended by the public in the city for the 36-hour lockdown over the weekend.
“Thank you Bangalureans for show of self discipline in enforcing a 36 hour lockdown,” Rao tweeted.
Further, the Commissioner assured “immediate action” to calls made to police helpline (100). “Let’s do our own bit to enforce wearing of mask and social distancing,” he urged.
Operating as many as 262 services of Shramik Special trains for migrants from Karnataka, the South Western Railway Sunday stated that it ferried 3,84,141 passengers to date.
According to SWR officials, two more such trains were operated to Gorakhpur (1600 passengers) and Muzaffarpur (950 passengers) on Sunday.
The first Shramik Special from Karnataka, amid lockdown, was a train that left Chikkabanawara on May 3 for Bhubaneswar with 1190 passengers.
As the number fresh Covid-19 cases and fatalities linked to the pandemic surge in Bengaluru, at least 26 wards in the city recorded over 10 cases each on Sunday, BBMP statistics revealed.
According to BBMP’s Covid-19 War Room data, Shantala Nagar topped the list with 59 cases, followed by Chamarajpet (32), Kadu Malleshawara (27), and Sampangiram Nagar (25) wards among others.
At the same time, Bengaluru alone reported 1235 new cases and 16 more deaths while the same was 1925 and 37 respectively in Karnataka on Sunday.
