The KSRTC Wednesday decided to allow students to travel in buses (City, suburban, Ordinary and Express buses) between their residence and allotted exam centres. “However, they should produce the student pass issued for the academic year 2019-20,” a KSRTC statement read.
The Bengaluru based, Centre for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP) on Wednesday launched a web-based tool that would use LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) based aerial imagery to identify shadow-free rooftops in Bengaluru
According to CSTEP, LiDAR helps the government design policies to tap solar power at the household level. The installation cost for rooftop solar installation is around Rs 45,000 per kilowatt or Rs 4.5- Rs 5 per unit, CSTEP said.
"For Bengaluru city, BESCOM (Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd ) has set a target to achieve 1.06 GW (giga watt) through rooftop solar power by 2022. However, it has added only 140 MW (mega watt) rooftop solar capacity," Jaymin Gajjar, Research Engineer at CSTEP said.

Karnataka Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah Wednesday urged the state government to not arrest innocents and frame them as culprits in connection with the violence reported from the streets of Devarajeevanahalli (DJ Halli) and Kadugodanahalli (KG Halli) in East Bengaluru last month.
Three people were killed in police firing and a fourth person succumbed to injuries on August 11 night over a purportedly inflammatory social media post put out by a relative of a local Congress legislator.
The former Karnataka chief minister alleged that several arrests have made in the case without evidence. “Police should gather evidence and pursue the case. Release those people against whom there is no evidence. Innocents should not be framed and at the same time real culprits should not be let off,” Siddaramaiah said.

Bengaluru Metro (Namma Metro), which has a 42.3-km network across 44 stations, will resume operations from September 7 “in a graded manner”.
To maintain social distancing, the number of commuters will be restricted to one-third of capacity in a six-coach train while thermal checks will be carried out at the entrance. Passengers will be advised to download the Aarogya Setu app for contact tracing and only e-tickets will be issued.

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) Wednesday announced a new 'FlyBus' service from Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru to Mysuru.
According to KSRTC officials, the daily services will commence on September 10. Each ticket will cost Rs 750.

Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala Wednesday urged Vice-Chancellors of various universities in the State to accept the challenge of being potential competitors to institutions providing world-class education.
In a meeting held with VCs of state-run varsities to discuss the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020, he said, "Bengaluru is an educational hub that ranks first in the country in medical, engineering, and research fields. If the government provides 100% staff to all universities, we can achieve 100% results."
Meanwhile, Deputy CM and Minister for Higher Education C N Ashwathnarayan apprised the Governor of forming a coordination and technical committee comprising VCs of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), and Bangalore University to prepare a "comprehensive report" on how to implement NEP.
Soon after his visit to DJ Halli police station, MLA Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy's residence and other areas of east Bengaluru which witnessed violence and police firing on August 11, Karnataka Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah said the incident could have been averted "if the police had taken swift action against Naveen," the person who uploaded an alleged derogatory post which led to the same.
Further justifying his late visit to the spot, he added, "I was undergoing treatment for Covid19 when DJ Halli incident happened and I have come now to visit the spot after completing quarantine norms."
"I condemn the act of violence and all those who were involved in the violence should be punished," the former Chief Minister tweeted.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Wednesday forecast thunderstorm in eleven districts of Karnataka, namely Belagavi, Bagalkote, Vijayapura, Raichur, Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag, Chitradurga, Chikkamagaluru, Tumkur, and Hassan.

Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah Wednesday visited DJ Halli police station and Pulkeshinagar MLA Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy's residence in Kaval Byrasandra, three months after violence was reported from the streets of East Bengaluru after an alleged derogatory comment against the beliefs of a community was posted on social media.
During his visit, the former CM also met Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Sharanappa S D seeking details on the progress of the investigation that is underway.
The Central Crime Branch, which has questioned filmmaker and journalist Indrajit Lankesh over the allegations he made in connection with drug abuse in the Kannada film industry, said on Tuesday no material or evidence was given to corroborate the claims. Lankesh had deposed before the police and was questioned for about five hours in connection with the alleged drug activities in the Kannada film industry, popularly known as Sandalwood.
“Yesterday Indrajit Lankesh was called to CCB and his statement was taken, wherein he mentioned about some past incidents and also took few names. No material or evidence was given to corroborate what he said. We are inquiring into it,” Bengaluru Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Patil said in a statement.
Patil added that the CCB will call Lankesh again and give him an opportunity to give any evidence or material if he has to support his statement. At the same time, the CCB would also do its own inquiry to collect evidence.

After receiving information about drugs supplied to Bengaluru from outside in buses and vehicles, Bengaluru police conducted extensive checking of vehicles at night in checkposts, bus stand using Police Narcotics Dog on Tuesday night, Sandeep Patil, CCB police said.
Despite coronavirus fears among passengers, Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) continued to be one of the busiest airports in the country facilitating travel for at least 1.4 million domestic flyers ever since lockdown norms were eased.
According to statistics recorded by the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) – in-charge of operations at the airport – as many as 15,658 Air Traffic Movements took place since May 25 following a two-month lockdown which was imposed in March to avoid further spread of the novel coronavirus.

The Kempegowda Jayanthi celebrations, which was supposed to be held on Wednesday, has been postponed because of the demise of former president Pranab Mukherjee, BBMP said.
The Kempegowda Jayanthi is postponed for the second time. It was earlier decided to be held on April 8, but it was put off due to the COVID-19 lockdown. Last week, the BBMP decided to hold the celebrations on September 2.
Bengaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB) police Tuesday conducted searches on three offices of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDFI) in connection with violence reported from the streets of Devarajeevanahalli (DJ Halli) and Kadugodanahalli (KG Halli) in East Bengaluru last month. The police have taken a search warrant from the court and formed three separate teams to conduct searches in the SDPI offices in various parts of Bengaluru.

Bengaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB) Police on Tuesday night conducted raids on an illegal spa and massage parlour in Sadashivanagar and rescued five girls.
According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Patil, the CCB police team raided summer hills spa in Sadashivanagar and rescued five victim girls. The police have also arrested the owner of the spa identified as Khayiwon Shang and he is being questioned for more details.
Cases were also filed against the owner of the spa under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), police said.

Karnataka has constituted a team of officials to study the pros and cons of selling liquor online, state Excise Minister H Nagesh said Tuesday.
According to Nagesh, the team of officials will study the success rate of online sales in the states where it has been implemented. "Regarding online liquor sale, we have constituted a team of senior officials to visit and study wherever it is implemented and look into the pros and cons. Whether it (online sale) is going on successfully, up to the mark, and is it satisfactory," Nagesh said.
The Minister also said that with the online sale there will be an additional service charge on the consumers, which the people will have to agree to." There is also opposition to it from the wine merchants association, their consent is also required and we will have to talk to them," he added.
