Four days after it was spotted at an apartment complex in Bengaluru’s Kudlu gate in the Singasandra area, Karnataka Forest Department Wednesday captured a leopard from the nearby area.
A senior forest official confirmed to indianexpress.com that the leopard is injured and has been taken to a rescue centre at Bannerghatta for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, a veterinarian was injured after the leopard attacked him during tranquilisation. Principal chief conservator of forest (wildlife) Subhash Malkhede said, “The veterinarian received a minor injury while he was trying to tranquilise the leopard. The veterinarian was taken to a hospital.”
Malkhede added, “We had zeroed in on the location where the leopard was traced but it was inaccessible due to the thick vegetation.”
Over 70 forest officials and staffers were involved in the combing operation. The police were also monitoring the situation.
A team from Mysuru had also arrived in Bengaluru to capture the leopard.
On Tuesday, state environment minister Eshwar Khandre, at a press conference, had said that the forest department is using modern technologies like thermal imaging cameras and drones to capture the leopard.
Khandre said the leopard could have come from Bannerghatta National Park.
