Congress councillor’s daughter stabbed to death on college campus in Karnataka’s Hubbali

The daughter of a Congress councillor of the Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) in Karnataka was stabbed to death on Thursday at the premises of her college by a fellow classmate.

According to the police, Neha Hiremath, 21, daughter of HDMC councillor Niranjan Hiremath, was stabbed by her classmate Fayaz. The accused, a resident of Savadatti in Belagavi district, was seen on CCTV footage stabbing Neha multiple times before fleeing the spot. The police are yet to ascertain the reason behind the murder but have detained Fayaz.

Neha was a first-year MCA student at the KLE Technological University where the murder took place. Her body has been shifted to the Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Hospital. A case has been registered and a probe is on, said a police officer.

The officer added that Fayaz is the son of government school teachers and six months ago, he had stopped going to college after failing in an examination. “On Thursday, he came to college with a knife and stabbed Neha multiple times. He was nabbed with the help of locals and is presently in police custody,” the officer said.
