THE BODY of a woman aged around 25 years was found packed inside a travel bag in Surat’s Kosamba area on Monday, police said. Efforts are on to identify the body, officers said.
According to the police, the bag – around two feet in length – was spotted by a local resident near a dried gutter alongside Kosamba Tarsadi Road, close to a car showroom, on Monday afternoon. He contacted the police control room.
A police team led by Inspector D L Khachar reached the spot and upon checking the bag, found the body. The hands and legs had been tied with strings, police said.
The body was sent for a post-mortem examination. The local resident who first spotted the bag later registered a police complaint against an unknown person under BNS 103(2) (Murder) and 238 (causing disappearance of evidence).
Superintendent of Police Rajesh Gadhiya said, “Our priority is to identify the body. Both hands bore tattoo marks. The place where the body was dumped has no CCTV network. Our teams are on the ground and a probe is on.”
Gadhiya added, “We have formed different teams, working on different possibilities. We are also checking with tattoo artists in nearby areas. There are no external injury marks on the body. The autopsy report may ascertain the exact cause of death.”
