Virbhadra orders probe into Asaram ashram

The Himachal Pradesh government on Wednesday ordered a probe into the setting up of a ashram of Asaram Bapu at Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district.

The Himachal Pradesh government on Wednesday ordered a probe into the setting up of a ashram of Asaram Bapu at Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district.

Alleging land violations and serious irregularities in setting up of his ashram,Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh — who is in Sirmaur on a two-day tour to launch new projects — also threatened to invoke government’s powers to take over the property.

Slamming Asaram,Virbhadra directed Sirmaur Deputy Commissioner Vikas Labroo to inquire into the issue and submit a report immediately. “The government will not spare anyone,no matter how high or influential he may be,if he had taken over land illegally,” Virbhadra told mediapersons.

A few months ago,the state government had taken over a property leased out to Baba Ramdev at Sadhupul in Solan district. The land was given to Patanjli Yogapeeth by the earlier BJP government.

Asked about BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi,Virbhadra said: “Modi’s nomination will have no impact in Himachal Pradesh. Remember,Modi had campaigned during the Assembly polls and also during the earlier Lok Sabha polls. What happened? The BJP lost and again it’s going to draw a blank on all the four Lok Sabha seats.”

Meanwhile, accusing private bus operators for not paying road tax regularly,Virbhadra threatened that the buses will be auctioned to collect the tax in case they failed to deposit the dues within a month.
