Unhappy with the recent fee hike in Sir J J English School, parents of the students took out a rally on Monday and handed over a memorandum to the district collector, seeking his intervention. They have also threatened to go on strike if their demands are not met.
The trustees of Sir J J English School at Shahpore had doubled the fees to meet the 6th Pay Panel recommendations. Upset with this, parents had met the trustees and beseeched them to reconsider the decision. But the trustees refused to budge, and the parents resorted to a protest.
The Surat collector has given his assurance to come up with a solution after discussing the matter with the District Education Officer.
Advocate Javid Multani said: Sir J J School is one of the oldest institutions in Surat belonging to the Parsi community. Earlier the fee-structure in the pre-primary section was Rs 4,500; this year, they have raised it to Rs 8,400.
