A few days ago, a conman posing as an executive engineer and his accomplice had swindled a large sum from the state government in Bodeli taluka of the predominantly tribal district of Chhota Udepur.

The accused were operating from a fake “government office” and had received “project grants” through digital transactions. The accused, by forging signatures and government seals, had secured over Rs 4 crore as grants from the state government for 93 projects. The government thereafter formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter.

“We will take action against all those involved,” said Patel. Asked asked if former officials of the state government were involved in the case, Patel said, “It is a matter of investigation. We will take strictest of action.”
