Last week, two families living in the same residential society in Surat approached their nearest police station. While a 23-year-old woman had been missing from one house, the other family reported the disappearance of an 11-year-old boy – a student of the woman.
During their probe, the police checked the CCTV footage of the residential society and spotted the boy and the female tutor walking out of the premises on April 25. In another footage, captured at the Surat Railway Station, they were again spotted together. Soon after, the woman’s phone was switched off.
Following a complaint by the boy’s parents, police have registered a case of kidnapping under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 137(2) against the woman. Surat Police has formed three teams to track down the accused and rescue the boy.
Police said the woman, who worked at a school in the neighbourhood, has been offering home tuition to the boy for the last three years.
Talking to The Indian Express, Assistant Commissioner of Police, B Division, P K Patel said, “The accused is a local Gujarati woman while the boy’s parents are natives of a neighbouring state. The accused is the boy’s school teacher who had been visiting his house for the last three years to offer tuition. At present, it is difficult to comment much, but we are investigating the case further.”
He further said, “In the CCTV cameras, the woman was seen carrying a bag while the boy had no luggage. Three different teams are working to locate them, and we are hopeful that they will be found soon.”
