A 30-year-old woman was gang-raped at her house in Surat by two robbers who also held her husband hostage, police said on Thursday. The robbers fled with cash worth Rs 30,000 and a bracelet early on Thursday morning.
The woman hails from Uttar Pradesh, while her husband is from Gujarat. The incident came to light after the couple approached the police station on Thursday.
The police said that the incident took place between 3 am to 4.30 am on Thursday.
They said that the couple were asleep when the two robbers broke into their flat on the third floor of a four-storey building. The robbers tied the man with rope at knife point, and took the cash and bracelet. They then took the woman to the terrace of the building where they gang-raped her. The woman was threatened not to raise an alarm.
A complaint was registered, after which a police team visited the couple’s flat. Forensic officials also visited the spot.
“We have obtained CCTV footage from the entrance of the apartment. On the basis of the statement of the victim, we have registered an offence under various sections of the BNS, including kidnapping, gang rape, robbery with forcefully confinement, against two unknown persons. A medical examination of the victim was conducted today (Thursday). We are making all efforts to identify and catch the accused,” Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 1, Surat City, Alok Verma, told The Indian Express.
