Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who visited Gujarat for a high-level meeting on semiconductor processing units in the state, on Monday reviewed the progress of the Ahmedabad Railway Station’s redevelopment as well as the High-Speed Rail (Bullet Train) Project.

A statement from the Western Railway (WR) quoted Vaishnaw as saying, “More than 1,300 railway stations across the country are currently under redevelopment, among which Ahmedabad is one of the major stations. The work on the Bullet Train project on the Saraspur side is progressing rapidly and the Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail station is almost ready. The Bullet Train station and the Ahmedabad railway station are being developed as an integrated complex, which will provide passengers with seamless transfer facilities. He further added that three additional platforms will be available at Ahmedabad station, enhancing its operational capacity.”

The minister said during his previous visit, the basement work was underway, while now the structure has reached the fourth floor.

On the Indian Railways dealing with high passenger flow, Vaishnaw said, “Major stations such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Ahmedabad receive high demand for new trains. In Gujarat, Ahmedabad and Surat have the highest demand. To meet this increasing demand and improve operational capacity, a Mega Terminal is being developed at Vatva, Ahmedabad, with 10 pit lines, which will add capacity for about 45 additional trains, enabling the operation of nearly 150 trains from Ahmedabad.”

On the integration of heritage in redevelopment of the Kalupur railway station, Vaishnaw said, “The redevelopment of Ahmedabad station is based on the concept of integrating heritage structures with a modern urban center… The architectural design of the station is inspired by the Modhera Sun Temple, reflecting a beautiful blend of cultural heritage and modern aesthetics. The iconic MMTH Tower on the Kalupur side will become a new landmark in Ahmedabad’s skyline. Heritage structures like the ASI-protected Brick Minar and Jhulta Minar will also be integrated into the redevelopment plan.”
