The Gujarat High Court has sought a status report from the Investigating Officer of a murder case in which Ahmedabad BJP Muslim Wing leader Kamruddin Sidani is an accused. Sidani has not been arrested even two months after the murder.
A single judge bench of Justice M R Shah has asked the IO to submit the report by July 25 when further hearing is scheduled.
This comes following a petition filed by Adam Nai,who is the complainant and an eyewitness to the alleged murder. In his petition moved through advocate Mukul Sinha,Nai has demanded to handover investigation of the case to either the CBI or to any other agency.
Advocate Amrish Patel, who is also appearing in the petition on behalf of Nai,said they have argued that Sidani is a politically influential person and that is why police have not been arresting him. He alleged the police have not been doing investigation properly and Sidani has been threatening the witnesses.
According to the case details,Abhram Nai,a resident of Vekariya village near Nal Sarovar in Ahmedabad district, was killed on May 12 allegedly by six persons, including Sidani, over a land dispute. Abhram’s brother,Adam, had also sustained serious injuries in the incident along with some other family members.
Later,Adam lodged a complaint with the Viramgam (Rural) police station, naming six persons as accused. Of the six, three have been arrested while the rest are reportedly evading arrest.
