State Food and Civil Supplies Minister Narottam Patel was weighed in blood (Rakt Tula) at a function to celebrate his 77th birthday here on Wednesday night.
The function was attended by state BJP president R C Faldu,ministers Dilip Sanghani,Nitin Patel and Speaker Ganpat Vasava among others in the Punagam area of the city.
Kamalam Karmayogi Mitravrundh,a group formed by the supporters of Patel,had organised the function,Seva ni Suvas. They had organised blood donation camps across the city earlier in the day and reportedly collected 70 litres of blood to counter balance the ministers 70 kg body weight.
Later,the minister cut a 77-kg cake. The blood collected by his supporters were handed over to various blood banks in the city.
Drawing parallels with freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose,Patel said,he (Bose) had once said Tum mujhe khoon do,main tumhe aazadi doonga. I will fight for them (the people),considering that they have given me their blood, Patel said.
