Man held for shooting at former partner a month after her engagement

A 21-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for firing at his 20-year-old former partner a month after the woman got engaged to someone else, police said.

Police said the youth, identified as Arbaazkhan Ishaqkhan, was nabbed shortly after he attacked the woman at her house in Nikol. He has been booked for attempted murder and breaking into the house of the woman, they said.

Both Ishaqkhan and the woman hail from Bhind in Padhya Pradesh. He was nabbed from a bus stand when he was about to board a bus for his native place, and placed under arrest, police said.

Y A Gohil, ACP, ‘K’ Division, told The Indian Express, “We have learnt that the woman and the accused had been in a relationship for five years. The woman got engaged to someone else a month ago. She was living with her family in Ahmedabad. The accused on Tuesday morning entered her house and fired a round from a countrymade pistol and fled the spot.”

The woman was hurt on the shoulder but is said to be recovering well.
