A 69-year-old man died after allegedly being run over by an Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) bus on Monday evening in Ahmedabad’s Sardarbaug area, said the officials, adding, a probe has been launched into the matter.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials identified the deceased as Bhupendra Shah.
The accident took place when the man was allegedly trying to cross the road in front of the vehicle, said the officials.
According to the AMC officials, at 6:35 pm on Monday evening, the AMTS bus running on 151/3 route was on its way to Lal Darwaza area of the city. The bus had stopped at Sardarbaug station to allow the passengers alight and climb aboard, said the officials. As soon as the driver started the vehicle, the victim who was trying to cross the road in front of it was crushed under the front left wheel and died on the spot, said the officials.
An AMTS Accident Inspector is investigating the matter. According to the AMC officials, the bus was going at a speed of 7 kmph when the incident took place. The traffic police are also investigating the incident.
