The Ambaji Marble – found in Banaskantha district of north Gujarat – has received a Geographical Indication Tag (GI Tag) by the Union government, said an official release from the state government.
With this, the release added, Ambaji Marble will sparkle as a “new identity of Gujarat on the world map”.
According to the release, the registration for the GI Tag has been done under the name of Ambaji Marbles Quarry and Factory Association.
The Commissioner of Geology and Mining, Banaskantha Collector and the Stone Artisan Park Training Institute have played an important role in the development.
Quoting Banaskantha Collector Mihir Patel, the release said that with the latest recognition, the respect for Ambaji Marble has further increased.
Ambaji Marble is known for its milky white colour, durability and natural beauty. It has been used in the construction of Ambaji temple and many other religious places, memorials and grand buildings.
With the latest recognition, Ambaji Marble is set to get a unique brand image.
geoThe certificate in this regard is being given by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) of the Union government.
