Magnitude 4.2 earthquake strikes Kutch, no casualties

An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.2 hit the Khavda region of Kutch district in Gujarat near the India-Pakistan border early Tuesday. No casualties have been reported so far.

According to the Gandhinagar-based Institute of Seismological Research (ISR), the seismic activity had an epicentre about 39 kilometre north-north-east of Khavda, near the border road running along the international boundary that India shares with Pakistan.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 1.3 km at 1.09 am in a region which is largely barren.

The last recorded seismic activity of a similar magnitude occurred at Dudhai in Kutch in January this year.
