The Gujarat High Court Monday adjourned “for the last time” the suo motu public interest litigation on the Morbi bridge collapse after the state government requested more time to submit the final Special Investigation Team (SIT) report before it.

Requesting an adjournment, the assistant government pleader informed the division bench hearing the case that the report was to be prepared by two state officers of which one had fallen ill and another had a death in the family.

Posting the matter after two weeks, the bench cautioned that this would be the “last” adjournment. It also chided the state for waiting till the last moment to prepare the report.

The state government, on August 31, had submitted before the court that the final SIT investigation report will be submitted within the next two weeks. The court had then granted three weeks’ time to submit the report before the court.

Meanwhile, the HC is due to hear the regular bail application of Oreva Group MD Jaysukh Patel on Tuesday. Additionally, an application before the Morbi sessions court seeking addition of IPC section 302 and also arraigning the company Oreva Group as an accused, filed in July, continues to remain pending.
