One of the major changes in the proposed Gujarat Public Universities Bill, 2023 and its draft that was put out in the public domain pertains to the Chancellor of eleven public universities in the state. Though changes in the Bill, to be tabled in the Assembly’s ongoing monsoon session, are said to have been incorporated from the representations received from the stakeholders, it is learnt that while the draft had stipulated the “government of Gujarat as Chancellor”, it has been replaced with the “Governor of the state of Gujarat shall be the Chancellor of the University” after “intervention” from top government offices.
The ground for the Lok Sabha polls is heating up in Bharuch with sitting seven-term BJP MP Mansukh Vasava alleging that four BJP leaders, including two sitting MLAs, were “working to sabotage his chances”. Earlier this week, Mansukh claimed that Jhagadia (Bharuch) MLA Ritesh Vasava, Nandod (Narmada) MLA Darshana Deshmukh as well as Jhagadia Taluka Panchayat member Prakash Desai and Narmada BJP District President Ghanshyam Patel were “conspiring” to bring other strong ‘Vasava’ candidates into the party to dent the sitting MP’s chances for an eighth term. He claimed that the Jhagadia leaders have been pushing the top party leaders to bring in sitting AAP MLA of Dediapada Chaitar Vasava into the party fold while the Narmada leaders have been trying to rope in Congress’ Haresh Vasava. None of the leaders named have reacted so far although Mansukh and Chaitar have engaged in verbal spats in the public domain after the Gujarat Assembly polls.
