The final negotiations with the Gujarat government for the allotment of 88 acres of land for the South Western Air Command (SWAC) headquarters are on,AOC-in-C,SWAC,Air Marshal K D Singh said on Wednesday.

“The Gujarat government had initially allotted 178 acres to us near Chiloda for the new SWAC Headquarters. They will give us an additional 88 acres and the final negotiations in this regard are on. The land will be made available soon,” said Air Marshal Singh.

Ever since SWAC was shifted here from Jodhpur in 1998,it has been stationed temporarily on the MLA hostel campus. The IAF,which already had 178 acre of ‘defence land’ in Chiloda, had sought another 100 acres from the state government, which the government gave on the outskirts of Gandhinagar, close to the Sabarmati river bank.

SWAC,however, refused to take the land as it was not adjacent to its own land. SWAC later asked for the 88 acre land nearby, for which the state government quoted a huge price.

Negotiations between SWAC and the state government have been going on for the last two years and the deal is yet to be finalised.
