BJP and some police officials tried to suppress my voice, said Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Dediapada constituency Chaitar Vasava who was released from Vadodara Central Jail after two-and-a-half-months even as the party hit back saying that the court and the judge send a person to jail, not BJP or police.
Vasava, who has been accused of assaulting a BJP leader during a meeting at the Prant Office in Dediapada on July 5, was granted bail on the condition that he won’t enter Dediapada taluka for a year .
The MLA was released from the jail Monday morning to a rousing welcome from the party members and his supporters.
Chaitar was in jail following his arrest based on a complaint from BJP leader and Dediapada taluka panchayat president Sanjay Vasava who had alleged that the AAP leader had abused Sagbara panchayat president Champa Vasava and then hurled his phone and a glass at him also when he intervened, at a meeting at the Dediapada Prant Office.
Chaitar is facing criminal charges, including attempt to murder. He was granted conditional regular bail from Gujarat High Court earlier this week on Monday.
Addressing the mediapersons after his release, Chaitar said, “I welcome the decision of the honourable High Court to grant me conditional bail. BJP and some police officials tried to suppress my voice. But this voice is the voice of the Constitution. This voice is of people. We will fight with full force against injustice anywhere in the state.”
He added, “I was in jail for the past two-and-a-half months. My biggest pain was that I could not share the happiness and grief of my constituency which is my family. It does not matter that I will not be able to go to my constituency, but I will do their work sitting next to them; it is my assurance.”
Reacting to Chaitar’s allegations, BJP media convener Yagnesh Dave said, “They should know that a person is sent to jail by court and judge and not by BJP or police. Police only does the implementation. He is wrongly defaming BJP and police and doing contempt of court.”
Chaitar was received by top Gujarat AAP leaders, including Isudan Gadhvi and Manoj Sorathiya. The AAP workers garlanded Chaitar and carried him on their shoulders.
Speaking to mediapersons, Gadhvi alleged that Chaitar was framed in a “false case” by the BJP since the former was “exposing their corruption in MGNREGA scams”. He added that the tribal community will “avenge” the false case against Chaitar by voting out the BJP from Gujarat.
Earlier this month, Chaitar was granted temporary bail to attend the three-day Monsoon Session of Gujarat Assembly between September 8-10.
