BJP MLA and Gujarat Minister for Sports and Youth Services Dr Jayram Gamit attended the inaugural event of a new hotel owned by former Congress MLA Sunil Gamit at Uchhal in Tapi on Sunday. The BJP leader had defeated the sitting Congress MLA from Nizar constituency in Tapi district in 2022.

Photos from the event, which featured Congress and BJP leaders sharing the stage, went viral on social media and drew mixed reactions.

The inauguration of Vishal Family Restaurant and Guest House at Jamki village on NH 53 was attended by Congress MLA and Leader of Opposition in the Gujarat Assembly, Dr Tushar Chaudhary, who cut the ribbon to formally open the establishment. BJP leader and Sumul Dairy vice-chairman Raju Pathak also attended the event.

Viral images showed Dr Chaudhary cutting the ribbon with Dr Jayram Gamit standing beside him, flanked by Pathak and fellow party leader Naresh Patel, former director of Surat District Cooperative Bank, along with hotel owner Sunil Gamit.

Those who attended said that after the inauguration, the leaders sat together, exchanged greetings, and offered their best wishes to Sunil Gamit and his son. They also shared a meal at the venue.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Sunil Gamit said, “I am a political leader and have relations with leaders from all parties. I was also a director of Sumul Dairy. On Friday, I called up all these leaders — both BJP and Congress — along with relatives and friends, and invited them to attend the event. Dr Jayram Gamit is my friend and lives about one kilometre from my village, so I invited him. There is no harm in calling friends and inviting them.”

Dr Jayram Gamit told The Indian Express, “Sunil Gamit is my old friend and we studied in the same college in Vyara. His house is about one kilometre from my village. He called me up a few days ago and asked me to attend the hotel inauguration, which I did. I think there is no harm in attending such a non-political event.”
