Asaram Bapu’s spokesperson Neelam Dubey, accused of making remarks hurting the sentiments of a particular religion, was on Monday granted interim protection against arrest by the Delhi High Court. The court also directed her to join the investigation as and when required.

An FIR had been registered against Dubey on August 25,under IPC Sections 153(a) for promoting enmity between different groups,295(a) for act done to outrage religious feelings and 298 (insulting religious feelings).

Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee had registered the complaint claiming that Dubey had hurt religious sentiments by making negative remarks about Guru Nanak Dev (the first Sikh guru) in a live debate on TV held on August 23. A case had also been filed against TV channel India News.

The complainant claimed that it repeatedly aired the interview despite knowing that the comments were factually incorrect.

The court of Justice Sistani on Monday allowed the anticipatory bail plea and granted interim protection till October 9,after noting that there was no need for custodial interrogation since the video was available with police and the television channel.
