The Narmada district administration has issued an “appeal” to residents to comply with the prohibitory orders in place against venturing into crocodile-infested Narmada river after a woman was dragged away by the reptile near Gora village across the Statue of Unity Tuesday.
Highlighting the case of the woman who was dragged away while she was washing clothes, the administration, in a public appeal Wednesday, said, “As per the powers conferred upon the Additional District Magistrate CK Undhad, a prohibitory order has been issued against stepping into the Narmada River or other water bodies at various dangerous spots for a dip or any other purpose.
“However, it has come to notice that several citizens are violating the prohibitory order in place and entering the Narmada River water, putting their lives at risk.”
Seven persons from Surat, including six minors, had drowned in the river in Poicha on May 14, after being swept away by the river current.
