More than 50 children of Vadali primary school in Sabarkantha district fell sick after taking iron folic acid (IFA) tablets under the central governments anaemia prevention programme.
Many of these children were admitted to the district civil hospital on Thursday morning following complaints of abdominal pain and vomiting.
District officials said that on Wednesday,these children were given the tablets which are distributed on a weekly basis. They said the school authorities were supposed to make sure the children consumed these tablets only after a proper meal,which was not the case that day.
The students started complaining of abdominal pain and nausea. Many of them were taken to Vadali health centre while some were rushed to civil hospital in Himmatnagar. About a dozen students who had left home without treatment were rushed to the hospital on Thursday morning, a senior health officer said requesting anonymity. He said all the children were out of danger and undergoing treatment.
There are 135 students registered in the school. On Wednesday,about 110 of them who were present took the tablets. Officials said all the 300-odd school heads in the district had been issued guidelines to distribute these tablets only after meals,which were overlooked by officials of the Vadali primary school.
Top taxman sent to CBI custody till April 9
The Gujarat High Court (HC) Thursday sent C S Bharti,the additional commissioner of income tax in Gandhinagar,to CBI custody till April 9 for his alleged involvement in a bribery case.
The special CBI court had rejected the central probe agencys demand seeking his further remand in the case after which it had approached the HC.
CBI officials had arrested Bharti on March 25 after he allegedly received Rs 30 lakh from a builder for the scrutiny and assessment of his construction firm. After his arrest,Bharti had been sent on remand two times. Later,CBI officials had sought his further remand,but the special CBI court rejected the same.
The probe agency had challenged the CBI courts order in this regard while seeking Bhartis further remand for nine days.
CBI counsel in the HC,Yogesh Ravani,said the court of Justice A J Desai quashed the lower courts order and granted CBI Bhartis custody till April 9 as there were certain facts related to the case which were in exclusive knowledge of the suspect for which his custodial interrogation was necessary. Middleman,Mohammed Hussain,was needed to be traced,the call details were needed to be analysed in the presence of the suspect and certain strings attached to the case were also required to be uncovered.
Bharti is a 1994 batch IRS officer who was posted as additional commissioner,Gandhinagar range.
