Two labourers were killed after the cable of an industrial elevator they were using snapped and the lift fell from the fifth floor at a textile factory in Surat on Saturday, police said. An accidental death case has been registered and a probe has been launched, police said.
According to the Olpad police the incident took place at Akshar Fabrics, located in Sayan GIDC, on Saturday afternoon.
Police identified the deceased as Ricky Mohanto (22) and Kishan Mohanto (23). The two were taking goods from the fifth floor to the ground floor in the lift, police said.
Other employees, who were on the ground floor, took the injured to a nearby hospital in Sayan town, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
Olpad police inspector C R Jadav said, “A factory inspection team reached the spot. They will prepare a report and we will decide our future course of action later.”
