The Supreme Court on October 17 refused to legalise same-sex marriage, with three justices of the five-judge bench maintaining that the decision comes under the purview of the legislature. The verdict was looked on as a possible milestone for the LGBTQIA+ community as it would have allowed lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, pansexual, two-spirit, asexual and ally persons several rights and privileges related to insurance, adoption, and inheritance.
