In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Ram Shankar Katheria contested from the Agra constituency in Uttar Pradesh and won the seat, securing a significant victory for the BJP. His win was part of the BJP's massive success in Uttar Pradesh, where the party and its allies won a majority of the seats.
During his tenure as an MP, Katheria was appointed as the Minister of State for Human Resource Development in the Narendra Modi government, where he focused on issues related to education and skill development. He was also involved in various initiatives to promote higher education and research in the country.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Katheria contested from the Etawah constituency but was unable to secure a win. He lost the seat to the Samajwadi Party candidate, which was part of a broader trend in Uttar Pradesh where the BJP faced a tougher contest compared to the 2014 elections.
