ABOUT Chris Brown

Last Updated : 25 Feb 2025
Chris Brown: A Reign in R&B Christopher Maurice Brown, born May 5, 1989, is a prominent American singer, songwriter, dancer, and actor. His blend of pop, hip-hop, and R&B has earned him accolades, including the unofficial title of "King of R&B" from some peers. Brown's music often explores emotional and hedonistic themes. His career launched in 2004 with Jive Records. His self-titled debut album achieved triple platinum status, and "Run It!" became his first Billboard Hot 100 number-one hit. Subsequent albums like Exclusive (2007) and F.A.M.E. (2011) further solidified his success, with the latter earning him a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album. Heartbreak on a Full Moon (2017) and Indigo (2019) also topped charts, with "No Guidance" and "Go Crazy" from Indigo setting records on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart. In 2022, "Under the Influence" from Indigo enjoyed a resurgence as a re-released single. Brown's impact is undeniable: he has sold over 140 million records worldwide, boasts the most top 40 hits of any R&B singer, and holds numerous RIAA certifications. Billboard ranked him the third most successful R&B/hip-hop artist of the 2010s. Beyond music, Brown has acted in films such as Stomp the Yard (2007), This Christmas (2007), and Takers (2010). His extensive career has garnered him 206 awards from 533 nominations. In 2009, Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault.
