Nepal’s Gen-Z Uprising Returns: Curfew Imposed as Clashes Erupt in Bara, 10 Injured

Fresh unrest has gripped Nepal as Gen-Z-led protests erupted once more in Bara district, forcing authorities to impose a strict curfew. Demonstrators gathered at Simara Chowk on Thursday to oppose the arrival of senior CPN-UML leaders, triggering clashes with security forces for the second consecutive day. Police fired tear gas and aerial shots to disperse crowds, while protesters set fire to a police post and vandalised party offices. Tensions stem from anger over political impunity and unresolved violence during September’s deadly uprising that toppled KP Sharma Oli’s government. With parliament dissolved and elections expected in 2026, the new leadership under Prime Minister Sushila Karki faces mounting pressure from a restless youth demanding accountability, fresh elections, and an end to what they call entrenched political corruption and nepotism. Curfew orders have failed to hold back demonstrators, signalling a deepening crisis in Nepal’s fragile transition.
