The new Janpath Metro station, part of the Central Secretariat-Mandi House stretch, is a riot of colours with beautiful artworks on its walls and the artificial ceiling, and large sections of the station bathed in bright maroon. (IE Photo: Praveen Khanna)
This is in sharp contrast to the new Mandi House station, which is similar in appearance to other Metro stations. (IE Photo: Praveen Khanna)
Both the stations are almost complete, workers at the stations say. “In fact, work at the Janpath Metro station for the past many months has only centred on beautification and refinement of what we had first built. They have put in a lot of effort on this station,” a supervisor said. (IE Photo: Praveen Khanna)
A huge structure depicting Jantar Mantar — with the structure in black and the stairs in gold and silver — adorns a prominent wall of the station, flanked by other structures sporting the same colour scheme. There are depictions of people too, but in blue, pink, yellow and maroon, among others. (IE Photo: Praveen Khanna)
On the other hand, beautification at the Mandi House Metro station consists largely of two large panels that DMRC officials say depict the history of the Mandi House area. (IE Photo: Praveen Khanna)
“The panels answer questions like why the area is called Mandi House and who was the king of the mandi,” a Metro spokesperson said. Potted plants in plenty can be seen at both stations along the walls. (IE Photo: Praveen Khanna)
