Preparations across country for 70th Independence Day celebrations

Independence Day will be celebrated across the country on August 15. India achieved Independence from colonial rule in 1947. At the stroke of the midnight, Jawaharlal Nehru, who went on to become the first PM of India, raised the tricolour above Lahori Gate of the Red Fort in Delhi. From that day, the tradition was repeated each year.
