The largest beer festival and travelling funfair in the world, the Oktoberfest began on September 17 in the German city of Munich. The opening ceremony of the 17-day festival started with Dieter Reiter, the Mayor of Munich tapping the first keg of beer in the Schottenhamel tent. According to the official site, Reiter drove the tap into the barrel with just two strikes this year, concluding the ceremony with the magic words: “O’zapft is!” – “It’s tapped!” (Source: Peter Kneffel/DPA)
