The bond between Sheikh Hasina and the Gandhi family dates back to the relationship between their predecessors. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Hasina's father and the founding leader of Bangladesh, shared a cordial relationship with Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India. (ANI)

This is the first time that Hasina attended Modi’s swearing-in ceremony. The Bangladesh CM was invited for the swearing-in ceremony in 2014 and 2019 too. However, she could not attend due to prior commitments. (ANI)
