The decision to reopen the institution came after a decline in the number of Covid-19 cases in the national capital. Several student bodies also held protests demanding the reopening of the campus earlier this month.

According to a PTI report, the first day of offline classes at the University saw a good turnout of students from Delhi, while attendance of outstation students was low.
Delhi University issued a notification on February 9 announcing the resumption of offline classes from February 17. It also said that outstation students will have to complete three days of isolation before joining their classes, which gave them less than one week to prepare.
During the pandemic, DU has opened libraries and other facilities partially at various stages, but the campus never fully reopened after it was closed in March 2020 following the outbreak of Covid-19. Classes and exams were held completely online.
Delhi reported 739 new Covid-19 cases and five fatalities on Thursday according to data shared by the Health Department. City's positivity rate stood at 1.48 per cent. In Pic: Students arrive to attend the first day of offline classes in the South campus.
