A war of words broke out between the Telangana Congress and the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) on Thursday after Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the Medigadda barrage, a part of the Kaleshwaram project where a few pillars were damaged last week forcing the state government to restrict entry to the barrage.
After the visit, Rahul accused the government of negligence, leading to the damage to the barrage. His statement on the Kaleshwaram Project being the “ATM of the KCR family” drew sharp reaction from the BRS.
“The KCR government is one of feudal lords. Congress will bring a praja (people’s) government very soon. The Kaleshwaram project only benefits the landlords. Kaleshwaram is equal to KCR family, which means it is full of corruption. Kaleshwaram project is KCR’s ATM. The pillars of the project are sinking and cracking and this is what happens when there is corruption involved,” he said. Rahul Gandhi visited the site along with TPCC chief A Revanth Reddy, CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and other leaders.
Reacting to the accusations, IT Minister and the son of the CM, K T Rama Rao slammed Rahul, saying: “Rahul Gandhi and Revanth Reddy went to inspect Kaleshwaram and were propagating that the bridge would break. They talk like they are experts,” he said. He added that the leaders were showing expansion joints of a bridge and planting fear in people by stating that the bridge would break.
“Rahul Gandhi does not know history nor does he make an effort to learn. He should either change the script or change the scriptwriter,” KTR said. He asked Rahul Gandhi to know the facts about Kaleshwaram and not just read the script given by the leaders sitting beside him.
BRS working president too joined the tirade, saying Kaleshwaram was a blessing to the people of Telangana and the Congress party was a curse to the people of India.
