In a unique initiative, the Jalgaon District Election Office has launched a certificate programme to train officials who will be a part of the election process.
“The programme, called Proficient Election Official Certificate (PEOC) Programme, will prepare the poll officials for the election day responsibilities and build their capacity to handle unprecedented scenarios,” said Devayani Yadav, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Faizpur.
The course, the first session of which commenced on April 5, will go on until April 15. “It relies on online and offline resources, including lecture series, handbooks and audio/video clips,” officials said.
Yadav added, “It is a two-step process wherein applicants would be shared a QR code to scan and answer case study-based practical questions. Passing that, the second round consists of a mock drill wherein each group will be assigned a 30-minute slot to simulate full-day election activities. The combined score of these rounds should be above 75 per cent to be granted the certificate of PEOC, otherwise the applicant would need to retake the exam.”
This programme also includes tutorials, doubt clearing sessions, mock drills, and viva to enhance operational skills and readiness for real-world situations.
Candidates also need to participate in a demonstration of all election-related activities that would be conducted on or before election day. This initiative combines theoretical study methods with hands-on training in practical scenarios to ensure the selected officials are fully prepared to handle potential challenges on election day. Election Officials are to be finalised before April 16.
