MP Election Results 2023: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is currently surging ahead of principal opposition Congress in Madhya Pradesh. According to early trends, the ruling BJP is currently leading in over 140 seats and the Congress in 87.
Counting of votes in elections to the 230-member state assembly is currently underway, with leads and numbers still fluctuating. The halfway mark in the state is 116 seats.
Postal ballots were counted between 8 am and 8.30 am, after which the counting of votes through EVMs began in the presence of officials and political parties’ authorised agents, he said.
One of the biggest challenges for the BJP was beating the “fatigue factor” ahead of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections. Shivraj Singh Chouhan has been the state’s longest-serving chief minister. At the moment as early trends based on postal ballots trickle in, BJP appears to have an edge in MP.
In its single-phase polling on November 17, Madhya Pradesh recorded its highest ever Assembly election turnout at 76.22%. This went up from 75.63% in 2018, which was the previous record high since the state’s formation in 1956.
