After an exhaustive, seven-phased exercise of nearly 50 days that spanned 28 states and eight Union Territories, brought about by more than 12 million officials who mobilised the election machinery, the results for the Lok Sabha elections will be announced on June 4.
General elections to the Lok Sabha in India is considered to be the biggest man-management exercise in the world. The Election Commission of India itself admits it's a "mammoth task" - one which began as early as on April 19 with the first phase, while campaigning began days before that. Star campaigners and political heavyweights of national and regional parties criss-crossed the country holding rallies and roadshows -- a colourful show of blame-game, criticism, controversies, some rule violations and many loud commitments.
While the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party based its campaign on the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, its many achievements of making India the economy it currently is, and "guarantees", the Opposition INDIA bloc's campaigning was more issue-based. It targeted the ruling party by raising issues such as unemployment, communal divide, farmers’ distress, and price rise.
The public, too, has turned up to hear what their leaders had to say. And then they cast their vote -- majority ventured out as most of India sizzled, some from remote areas.
