With less than a month left for the Lok Sabha election results to be declared, the Congress said its ‘guarantees’ listed in its manifesto will change the circumstances faced by women in these “tough times.”

Congress parliamentary party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, in a video message shared by the party, said, “My dear sisters, women have made a huge contribution, from the freedom struggle to the creation of modern India. However, today our women are facing a crisis amid severe inflation. To do justice to their hard work and penance, the Congress has come up with a revolutionary guarantee.”

Gandhi announced the benefits of the ‘Mahalakshmi scheme’ which is aimed at lifting women from poor families out of the crisis. “The Congress’ ‘Mahalakshmi’ scheme guarantees that we will give Rs 1 lakh every year to a woman from a poor family,” she said in her message.

“In Karnataka and Telangana, our ‘guarantees’ have already changed the lives of many families. Be it MGNREGA, Right to Information, Right to Education or through schemes like Food Security, the Congress party has empowered millions of Indians. The ‘Mahalakshmi’ is the latest guarantee to take our work forward,” she added.

The Congress party’s Lok Sabha election manifesto is focused on ensuring justice to people based on five “Nyay pillars”. The party is fighting the elections on the issue of ‘five nyay’ (justices) — ‘Bhagidari Nyay’, ‘Kisan Nyay’, ‘Nari Nyay’, ‘Shramik Nyay’ and ‘Yuva Nyay’ — giving 25 guarantees, five under each category, announced earlier by the Congress president and Rahul Gandhi.
