Retired IPS officer BL Soni on Tuesday joined the BJP in Jaipur and attacked former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot over paper leaks.
During the Gehlot government, Soni headed the Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) as the Director General. He retired in December 2022.
On Tuesday, Soni was inducted into the BJP by party’s former state president Arun Chaturvedi, who is also the joining committee convener, and Narayan Panchariya, BJP state vice president.
Attacking Gehlot, Soni said, “While in the system, I saw that the people who will be recruited now — be it RAS, RPS, Sub Inspector, Doctor, Tehsildar — will serve the state for about 35-36 years. So, keeping in mind the interests of the state we should have recruited the people who serve the state well. But due to his personal and political interests, the previous CM did kutharagat (dealt a blow) to the youth.”
He said the previous government cheated the youth in all government examinations. “The people tasked with the recruitment process were of suspicious nature because of which the entire Rajasthan is ashamed. The influential people got their relatives recruited on important government posts. I am happy that the new government has taken it seriously and constituted an SIT (to investigate this),” he said.
On being asked why he joined the BJP, he said PM Modi’s dream of “viksit Bharat (developed India)” as well as policies influenced him.
