Amid chants of her name, Hillary Clinton accepted her nomination at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia on Thursday. The Democratic nominee, first woman to lead a major party in the US presidential elections, was introduced by her daughter Chelsea Clinton who spoke of how her mother would treat America the way she treated her daughter.

Hillary started her speech by thanking her family, supporters and then thanked rival Bernie Sanders, who competed with Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination. She said that Sanders’ supporters ‘inspired Americans’ and assured that their cause would be her cause too.

Referring to her Republican rival Donald Trump’s constant warnings on the future, Clinton quoted Franklin Roosevelt and said, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” Clinton also attacked Trump for claiming that he knew about ISIS more than the US generals. Taking a dramatic pause, she said, “No, Donald. You dont.” The reaction drew cheers and applause from the audience. The jabs didn’t stop there. On Trump’s claims to fix America, Clinton hit back saying “Americans don’t say I will fix it. They say, we will fix it.”

During her address, she underlined many policy issues ranging from education to health and more. She listed out her job titles and said that during her years of public service, the service part came ‘easier to her’ than the public part. That was particularly why people didn’t know what to make of her. Attacking Trump in an indirect way, Clinton said that she was from a family where ‘no one had their names on a building’. Naturally, statements like these made sure Twitter users had a field day in passing their two cents on the #DemConvention.

Clinton ended her speech by saying that ‘progress is possible’ in America and the country’s destiny was theirs to choose and so they should ‘be stronger together.’
