US Presidential Election: During the closing speech at the Ellipse in Washington, DC, Vice President Kamala Harris reminded the crowd that it was the location where former President Donald Trump wanted to “overturn the will of the people” on January 6, 2021. Harris said she brings a to-do list to the White House in place of Trump’s “enemies list”.

In the final election campaign sprint by former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, the election rhetoric has risen and the race to the White House has become a “neck to neck” contest, according to multiple polls. Harris’s lead over Trump has narrowed in the final phase of the race, with the Democrat holding a slim advantage of just one percentage point, 44% to 43%, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Tuesday.

President Joe Biden, who dropped out of the race to the presidential bid, hosted a Diwali celebration at the White House and praised the character of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris with around a week left for the Election Day. President Biden said, “I selected Kamala to be my running mate for many reasons. She’s smart, she’s tough, she’s trusted. There’s more experience that she has than that other guy she’s running against. But most important, and I mean it seriously from the bottom of my heart. She has character. She has character.”

With a crowd of over 75,000 people, the Vice President Kamala Harris called on the voters to be alarmed of the dangers another former President Donald Trump’s presidency would come with, while speaking at Ellipse lawn in Washington D.C, a site where Trump gave the infamous Jan 6, 2021 speech which was followed by US Capitol riots.

“Look, we know who Donald Trump is. He is the person who stood at this very spot nearly four years ago and sent an armed mob to the United States Capitol to overturn the will of the people in a free and fair election,” Harris said.

US Elections: Trump says his New York rally marked by crude and racist insults was 'an absolute lovefest'

Urged by some allies to apologize for racist comments made by speakers at his weekend rally, Donald Trump took the opposite approach on Tuesday, saying it was an “honor to be involved” in such an event and calling the scene a “lovefest” — the same term he has used to describe the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Trump gathered supporters and reporters to his Mar-a-Lago resort two days after a massive rally at Madison Square Garden featured a number of crude remarks by various speakers, including a set by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe in which he joked that Puerto Rico was a “floating island of garbage.”

Some of Trump’s top Republican allies have condemned the remarks, and his campaign took the rare step of publicly distancing itself from Hinchcliffe’s joke, though not the other comments. But given the opportunity to apologize at events and in an interview, Trump instead leaned in. Speaking at his Florida resort, he said that “there’s never been an event so beautiful” as his Sunday rally in his hometown of New York.“The love in that room. It was breathtaking,” he said.

Bannon, the right-wing podcast host, was imprisoned for four months for defying the subpoenas from the House January 6 committee back in the year 2022 but he managed to avoid jail for two years as he sought appeals.

On Monday, Trump, the Republican nominee, spoke at a rally held in the McCamish Pavilion on the Georgia Institute of Technology campus in Atlanta, where he dismissed efforts by Democrats to liken him to the Nazis.

“I am not a Nazi... I am the opposite of a Nazi,” the former Republican president declared. Trump also criticised Harris for labelling him a fascist. “She’s the fascist,” he retorted. US Election 2024 Live Updates: Democrats escalate attacks on Trump after comedian calls Puerto Rico 'floating island of garbage'

Democrats stepped up their attacks on Donald Trump on Monday, a day after a comedian opening a rally for the former president called Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage,” a comment that drew wide condemnation and highlighted the rising power of a key Latino group in the swing state of Pennsylvania. Vice President Kamala Harris described Trump’s rally Sunday at Madison Square Garden as “more vivid than usual” and said he “fans the fuel of hate” before she flew to Michigan for a campaign event.

President Joe Biden called the rally “simply embarrassing.” In a rare move late Sunday, the Trump campaign distanced itself from the remarks on Puerto Rico made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe.“The garbage he spoke about is polluting our elections and confirming just how little Donald Trump cares about Latinos specifically, about our Puerto Rican community,” Eddie Moran, mayor of Reading, said at a news conference with other Puerto Rican officials.

With just over a week before Election Day, the fallout underscores the importance of Pennsylvania's 19 electoral votes and the last-minute efforts to court growing numbers of Hispanic voters, mostly from Puerto Rico, who have settled in cities west and north of Philadelphia. Fernando Tormos-Aponte, an assistant professor of sociology at the University of Pittsburgh who specializes in Puerto Rican politics and electoral organizing, said the timing of the comments may spell trouble for the Trump campaign.
