In a major escalation of the war on its 1,000th day, Russia on Tuesday alleged that debris from a US-made ATACMS missile has fallen in the Bryansk region of the country. According to a report by Russia’s state-owned news agency Tass, citing the Ministry of Defence, the debris landed at a military facility in the region and caused a small fire.

The ministry further stated that it had intercepted and shot down five of the missiles over Bryansk. It reported that the attack resulted in no casualties or significant damage. However, these claims have not been independently verified by any other news agency and Ukraine has not commented on the reports with no confirmation from the US or its allied nations either.

The Joe Biden administration had recently granted Ukraine permission to use the long-range missiles to target locations in Russia’s neighbouring Kursk region, where Ukrainian forces have conducted operations and where Russia has reportedly deployed allied North Korean troops.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces claimed to have successfully struck a Russian logistics centre near Karachev in the Bryansk region, resulting in multiple explosions.
