In a provocative stance, Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli Wednesday asked volunteers of the Yuva Sangh, the youth front of Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist, to spring and attack pro-monarchy elements “like a tiger”.
Oli also ran down the entire opposition after it obstructed the proceedings of the House of Representatives, protesting the dismissal of the country’s electricity authority chief, Kulman Ghising. The protests led to the adjournment of the House for the day.
Addressing a meeting of the Yuba Sangh volunteers, PM Oli said they should realize their strength and “attack anyone trying to snatch away the rights that we fought for.”
Oli made the remarks in the context of the ongoing movement to restore the monarchy in the country.
Oli, who did not attend the House, said in the Yuba Sangh event that the Opposition’s concerns over the dismissal of the Nepal Electricity Authority chief were not even worth commenting on.
“An official has been replaced by another. Why create a mountain out of a molehill,” he said.
CPN-UML chief whip Mahesh Bartaula said that the PM responding to the issue in parliament is out of question.
CPN-Maoist Chief and Leader of the Opposition Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda said the opposition will not let the House run until and unless the PM gives a satisfactory reply to Ghising’s dismissal.
Protests were held in different parts of the Capital, including in front of the NEA head office.
In the meantime, Ghising had filed a petition before the Supreme Court against his dismissal. “As the petition was registered towards the fag end of the business hours, we will study and take an appropriate decision tomorrow,” SC registrar’s office said.
