Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has held a marginal 3 percentage lead over Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump with 45% to 42% as the two remain in contention in the race to White House, a Reuters/Ipsos poll has indicated.

Though the margin between the two leaders remained steady as compared to the Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted a week earlier, the recent data suggests that Democrats might be more enthused with this year’s election in comparison to the 2020 presidential election, when Democrats President Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump.

The three day Reuters/Ipsos poll showed that 78% of registered voters, including 86% of Democrats and 81% of Republicans, were completely certain of casting their ballot in the upcoming November 5 election. The poll had a margin of error by 4 percentage points.

Vice President Kamala Harris entered the presidential race after incumbent President Biden announced his departure in July after a seemingly poor debate performance against Trump on June 27 at CNN. At the time, Trump was seen as the frontrunner partly based on his perceived strength on the economy after several years of high inflation under the Biden administration.

In the recent past, Harris has gained momentum as people are backing her as the better candidate for healthcare policy and to counter political extremism. Though the new poll also shows that voters are taking economic issues as one of the top issues in the election and they are considering Trump as the better option.

According to the latest poll by Reuters/Ipsos, 938 US adults were surveyed online, nationwide, including 807 registered voters. Among these, 769 were considered the most likely to turn out on Election Day.
