After Gaza based Hamas militant group’s leader Yahya Sinwar was declared dead by the Israel military, the US President Joe Biden issued a statement and said that it “is a good day for Israel, for the United States, and for the world.”
President Biden asserted that Sinwar was responsible for the killings of thousands of Israelis, Palestinians, Americans, and citizens from over 30 countries. Biden stated that Sinwar was the mastermind behind the October 7 terrorist attack on Israel led by the Hamas group.
Leveling the October 7 attack plans on Sinwar, Biden said, “It was on his orders that Hamas terrorists invaded Israel to intentionally – and with unspeakable savagery – kill and massacre civilians, a Holocaust survivor, children in front of their parents, and parents in front of their children.”
Giving details about the casualties in the Hamas attack, Biden said that over 1,200 people died in the Hamas attack on October 7, including 46 Americans. To add on, close to 250 people were taken hostage and out of which 101 still remain missing.
Biden further said, “Israel has had every right to eliminate the leadership and military structure of Hamas. Hamas is no longer capable of carrying out another October 7.”
Drawing parallels to the killing of al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden in 2011, President Biden addressed the Israelis and said that it is a day of relief and reminiscence, similar to the scenes witnessed throughout the United States after President Obama ordered the raid to kill Osama Bin Laden.
Speaking about the death of Hamas leader Sinwar, Vice President and Democratic candidate for US Presidential elections, Kamala Harris said that the killing of Hamas chief has given an opportunity to end the war in Gaza.
Harris, who was campaigning at a Wisconsin college campus, said “The war must end such that Israel is secure, the hostages are released, the suffering in Gaza ends and the Palestinian people can realize their right to dignity, security, freedom and self-determination.”
Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu said that the war with Hamas is still not over, even after the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.
