Singapore police said on Sunday they shot one person dead and detained two others early in the morning after the car they were traveling in crashed past police barricades near a hotel where a high-level regional security meeting is being held.
The incident happened near the hotel where a meeting of top defence officials was taking place including US Defense Secretary Ash Carter.
The police said the car was stopped at a checkpoint but when the driver was asked to open the rear of the car for checks, he accelerated towards a road in the vicinity of the Shangri-La Hotel.
The police said they opened fire on the vehicle to stop it and that substances believed to be drugs were found on one of the persons detained, it said in a statement on its Facebook page.
