Ekadashi in September 2025: Ekadashi is one of the most significant days in Hinduism, as devotees observe fasts and worship Lord Vishnu and Maa Lakshmi in the hope of receiving heavenly benefits and achieving salvation from sins.
A total of 24 Ekadashi observances are marked throughout the year during the Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha. It falls twice in a month, and in September this year, Parsva Ekadashi and Indira Ekadashi will be observed.
The day falls on the eleventh day (Ekadashi) of the Bhadrapada month in the Shukla Paksha and is marked as Parsva, or Parivartini Ekadashi.
This year, it falls on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, and is one of the significant Ekadashis, with the Ekadashi tithi beginning at 3:53 AM on September 3 and ending at 4:21 AM on September 4.
Devotees observing the fast will perform Parana (breaking of the fast) on September 4, between 1:29 PM and 3:58 PM, after the completion of Hari Vasara, which ends at 10:18 AM.
Parsva Ekadashi holds great spiritual significance, as it is believed to be the day when Lord Vishnu turns from one side to another while resting on Shesha Naga during his cosmic sleep (Chaturmas). Observing this Ekadashi with devotion is said to bring blessings, remove sins, and lead the soul closer to liberation.
Indira Ekadashi is observed during the Krishna Paksha of the Ashvina (Ashwin) month, and this year, it will be observed on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
According to Drik Panchang, the Ekadashi tithi begins at 12:21 AM on September 17 and extends into the early hours of September 18.
Devotees are advised to perform Parana (breaking of the fast) during the auspicious window of 6:07 AM to 10:12 AM on September 18.
It holds immense spiritual importance, as it is primarily dedicated to pleasing Lord Vishnu and offering prayers for the salvation of departed ancestors.
