Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS: Since the inauguration in October 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remotely flagged off the 17-kilometre-long Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor from Duhai to Modi Nagar North on Wednesday, March 6, 2024.
One of the three rapid rail corridors, under the first phase of the RapidX by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), Delhi-Meerut RRTS and colloquially Rapid Rail, is an 82.15 km (51.05 mi)-long semi-high-speed rail and regional rail corridor that will connect the National Capital Region (NCR) cities of Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut.
Ensuring “balanced and sustainable urban development” through better connectivity and access across the NCR, it aims to significantly reduce travel time between Delhi and Meerut by under an hour.
An official of the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) mentioned, as quoted by news agency PTI, “With the inauguration of this additional 17-km section, Namo Bharat services will be seamlessly available on 34 km of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor, incorporating eight stations from Sahibabad to Modinagar North.”
The RRTS covers a length of 82.15 km, featuring both elevated and underground sections. It comprises 22 stations, connecting Delhi to Meerut. It will run parallel to the National Highway 24 and intersect with the Delhi Metro at stations like Nizamuddin/Sarai Kale Khan, Anand Vihar, and Ghaziabad.
